What does a… hotel florist actually do?
Larger five-star hotels often employ florists. How does working in a hotel differ from working in a flower shop, what does it involve and what does it take?
Hotel florists are responsible for the design and care of creative and constantly changing decorations made of flowers and plants in the hotel lobby and other public areas, in the rooms or suites, but also for events, banquets and weddings in the hotel or even for guests themselves. Depending on the situation, their tasks may also include outdoor areas such as terraces or the hotel garden.
To do this, they must have a great deal of expertise in flowers and plants, but also be familiar with the latest trends, techniques and materials in floral design.
They work closely with the housekeeping department, the F&B and events department and reception to create and maintain decorations for orders, events, arrivals and departures on time and on budget.
They manage the purchase, delivery and professional storage of their materials within the set budget.
Hotel florists not only need a great deal of specialist knowledge, but also a lot of creativity. They must be customer-orientated, flexible and punctual, work well in a team and be prepared to work evenings and weekends. In return, you will be offered an exciting field of work in a beautiful and cultivated environment, with international colleagues and guests.
As a hotel florist, you need to have completed an apprenticeship or equivalent training and usually also have some experience in a similar position and language skills, at least in German and English.
