What does a… Room Attendant actually do?
“Room Attendant” is the modern English term for chambermaid and is mainly used in larger, international hotels.
Room attendants are responsible for the cleanliness and comfort of hotel guests by ensuring that the rooms (and public areas of the hotel, if applicable) are tidied and cleaned. They make beds, clean bathrooms, vacuum and dust floors, replace linen, toiletries and the contents of the minibar, take care of floral decorations, etc. Depending on the hotel, they may also be responsible for purchasing and stocking cleaning products and utensils.
Room Attendants often come into direct contact with guests and should therefore, like all hotel employees, have a friendly, professional host personality. They need flexibility, strength and stamina, as the work is physically demanding.
Room Attendants must be able to work independently and responsibly, but also co-operate as part of a team and follow instructions. They must be able to work efficiently and organise their own time.
As a rule, you don’t need any special training to work as a room attendant. This means that it is also an ideal job for career changers who want to work in the hotel industry and possibly pursue a career with additional training, for example as a housekeeping team leader or governess.
Competent and motivated room attendants always find a good job!
